Frequently asked questions

What is the maximum MOT fee for a car?

The maximum a garage can charge for a car MOT is £54.85. Many garages charge less.

Is an MOT retest free?

A partial retest is free if the car stays at the test centre for repairs and is retested within 10 working days, or if you bring it back by the end of the next working day for certain minor items. If you take it away and bring it back within 10 working days, the garage can charge up to half the maximum fee. After that it needs a full test.
